IQMS and DelmiaWorks alternative comparing DelmiaWorks ERP with a flat per plant production scheduler

ProductionPlanning.ai is an IQMS and DelmiaWorks alternative for small and mid sized plants whose real problem is late orders, not a missing ERP. DelmiaWorks, the system formerly sold as IQMS EnterpriseIQ, is a full manufacturing ERP and MES owned by Dassault Systemes, built for plastics, injection molding, automotive and medical suppliers, priced per user on a quote with no published price. Third party estimates start around 25,000 USD a year before implementation. We do one job: load every machine against its real shifts and show which orders will ship late, for a flat 149 USD per plant a month with unlimited users. The comparison below is honest, including where DelmiaWorks is the better buy.

02 Why switch

Why plants look for a DelmiaWorks or IQMS alternative

DelmiaWorks is a serious system. It runs whole plants, from quoting and EDI releases to molding cells, quality records and the general ledger, on one database. Plants that start looking elsewhere usually hit one of these.

  • The quote arrives before the schedule is fixed. Dassault publishes no price, and directory estimates start at 150 to 250 USD per user a month with a five user minimum
  • Implementation is a project, not a setup. ITQlick puts it at 20,000 to 100,000 USD and Dassault's reseller GoEngineer describes rollouts of around six to eight months
  • The plant only needs one part of it. Orders, stock and invoices already work in QuickBooks or a small ERP; what is missing is a finite capacity plan for the presses and machines and a list of the orders that will be late
  • Everyone who needs to see the plan is a seat. Shift leads, setup techs and sales each need a login to read the schedule
  • Owners of a legacy IQMS install are being asked to upgrade or move to the current DelmiaWorks release, and want to price the alternatives before signing

If the third line describes your plant, the choice is not between two ERP systems. It is between a months long ERP rollout and a schedule you can run this week.

03 The name

IQMS, EnterpriseIQ and DelmiaWorks are the same product

Buyers search all three names, so it helps to know they are one system. IQMS was founded in 1989 and moved to Paso Robles, California in 1995. Its ERP was sold as EnterpriseIQ. Dassault Systemes announced the purchase of IQMS in December 2018 for 425 million USD, and at the time IQMS reported about 1,000 customers running 2,000 plants, mostly in the United States. The product was renamed DELMIAWorks, and today both delmiaworks.com and iqms.com redirect to the SOLIDWORKS site, where it is sold as DELMIAWorks Manufacturing ERP. If you run IQMS today, you run an older release of DelmiaWorks, and it is still supported.

04 Pricing

What DelmiaWorks costs, according to the people who track it

Dassault does not publish a DelmiaWorks price and Capterra lists it as contact vendor, no free trial and no free version. The figures in circulation are third party estimates. They disagree, so treat every line below as a range to test on the sales call, not a price list.

Source What it says about DelmiaWorks pricing
SoftwareConnect Starts at over 25,000 USD a year; 250 USD per user a month with a minimum of five users
SelectHub Starts at 25,000 USD, billed annually
ITQlick From 150 USD per user a month; implementation 20,000 to 100,000 USD; first year for 10 users 38,000 to 198,000 USD
VendorBenchmark 140,000 to 380,000 USD a year for 100 to 300 users; advanced planning and scheduling as an add-on of 35,000 to 80,000 USD; support 20 to 24 percent of license
Dassault Systemes and resellers Quote only, based on users, modules and deployment

The one thing every source agrees on is the shape: the bill grows with every named user, implementation is priced separately and usually exceeds the first year of subscription, and the larger figures assume an operation far bigger than a 20 person plant.

06 Cost

What a 15 person plant would pay for DelmiaWorks in a year

Bar chart of year one subscription estimates for a 15 person plant. DelmiaWorks 45,000 USD at 250 USD per user a month, 27,000 USD at 150 USD, 15,000 USD at the five user minimum, against ProductionPlanning.ai Plant 2,574 USD and Line 894 USD a year with unlimited users

Take a plant with 15 people who need to see the schedule: an owner, a planner, two people in the office, three shift leads, two setup techs and six operators. At the per user estimates above the arithmetic is simple, and it is before implementation.

Configuration Estimate per month Estimate per year
Five user minimum at 250 USD 1,250 USD 15,000 USD
15 users at 150 USD, the low estimate 2,250 USD 27,000 USD
15 users at 250 USD, the high estimate 3,750 USD 45,000 USD
Add implementation, ITQlick range, one time 20,000 to 100,000 USD

ProductionPlanning.ai for the same plant is 894 USD a year on Line or 2,574 USD on Plant, with every one of the 15 people included and support in the price. A group of up to five plants pays 1,290 USD a month on the Group plan.

The fair caveat is large. DelmiaWorks money buys an entire ERP and MES. If your customers send EDI releases, your molds need cavity and tool life tracking and your auditors want lot traceability, comparing it with a scheduler on price is the wrong test. The comparison only matters when the schedule is the part you are short of.

07 Where they win

Where DelmiaWorks is the better choice

We would rather you buy the right system than the wrong one from us. Choose DelmiaWorks if any of these applies.

  • You run injection molding, blow molding or stamping and need mold, cavity, family mold and tool maintenance tracked against every job
  • Automotive or medical customers send you EDI forecasts and releases and expect ASNs and invoices back automatically
  • You need lot traceability, quality records, audits and preventive maintenance in the same system as production
  • You want machine monitoring and MES data from the presses to drive the schedule in real time
  • You use SOLIDWORKS and PDM and want engineering data to flow straight into the ERP
  • You have the budget and the internal team for a rollout measured in months and want one vendor for everything

For a plastics or automotive supplier with several plants and compliance pressure, DelmiaWorks is one of the most complete systems built for exactly that work.

08 Where we win

Where a dedicated scheduler wins

  • Finite capacity on every machine and shift, with holidays and planned maintenance, on every plan
  • A projected finish date for every open order, and the week's bottleneck named with the jobs it will make late
  • Setup times per product family and automatic grouping of similar jobs on Plant, so changeovers on presses and machines drop
  • Sequencing rules you compare before publishing: earliest due date, shortest operation first, customer priority
  • Unlimited users, so the planner, shift leads, setup techs, operators and sales all see the same plan with no seat count
  • A published price, support included, no implementation project, and a monthly plan you can cancel any time
  • Runs next to QuickBooks, a small ERP or a legacy IQMS install, so nothing has to be migrated before the first schedule

The clearest fit is a 5 to 60 person plant where orders, stock and invoices are under control and the weekly plan still lives in a spreadsheet or on a whiteboard. See the load view on capacity planning software, the sequence per press and machine on machine scheduling software, and how a scheduler sits next to an ERP on manufacturing ERP alternative.

09 Moving over

How to get a real schedule this week without a DelmiaWorks rollout

1. Export open orders and routings

Pull open orders with part, quantity and due date, plus the operation steps with setup and cycle times, from QuickBooks, your current ERP or an IQMS report. Plant imports the spreadsheet directly.

2. Enter presses, machines and shifts

Add a work center for each press, machine, line or cell, the shifts it runs, and its holidays and maintenance windows. For a 20 machine plant this takes about an hour.

3. Run the schedule and read the bottleneck

The first run gives every open order a projected finish date and names the work center limiting the week. It is often not the machine everyone blamed.

4. Decide later whether you still need an ERP

With the schedule fixed, the case for a full ERP gets clearer one way or the other. If EDI, traceability or mold management is still hurting, DelmiaWorks is a reasonable next step and the scheduler keeps running beside it until the cutover.

10 Questions

Questions people ask before choosing DelmiaWorks

What is the best alternative to DelmiaWorks?

It depends on what you need replaced. Plants replacing a whole ERP usually compare Plex, Epicor Kinetic, Global Shop Solutions and JobBOSS2; we cover two of them on our Global Shop Solutions alternative and JobBOSS replacement pages. If the gap is the production schedule and the rest of the business already runs, a dedicated scheduler such as ProductionPlanning.ai fits better, from 149 USD per plant a month with unlimited users.

How much does DelmiaWorks cost?

Dassault does not publish a price. Third party estimates start at about 25,000 USD a year, with per user figures of 150 to 250 USD a month and a five user minimum. Implementation is extra, estimated at 20,000 to 100,000 USD for a mid sized plant. Expect a quote based on users, modules and deployment.

What is IQMS called now?

IQMS is now called DELMIAWorks. Dassault Systemes bought IQMS in a deal announced in December 2018 and renamed its EnterpriseIQ ERP. The old iqms.com and delmiaworks.com addresses redirect to the SOLIDWORKS website, where it is sold as DELMIAWorks Manufacturing ERP.

Is DelmiaWorks cloud based?

DelmiaWorks can be deployed on premise or in the cloud, according to its reseller GoEngineer. Many long running IQMS customers still run it on their own servers. Ask the sales team which hosting option the quote covers, because the deployment model changes both the price and who maintains the database.

Does DelmiaWorks integrate with QuickBooks?

DelmiaWorks has its own built in financials, so it usually replaces QuickBooks rather than syncing with it. We found no published QuickBooks integration. If you want to keep your books in QuickBooks, a scheduler that runs beside it, such as ProductionPlanning.ai, avoids moving accounting at all.

Does DelmiaWorks have production scheduling?

Yes. Dassault describes visual scheduling that allocates machine time and labor based on current capacity and flags bottlenecks, and resellers show drag and drop scheduling for multi cavity and family molds. Scheduling lives inside the ERP, so you need the ERP to use it. Our best production scheduling software roundup compares the standalone options.
