What Rockwell publishes about Plex pricing
Nothing with a number on it. Plex became part of Rockwell Automation in 2021 and is now sold as the Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform. Its pages describe the product and end in a demo request, and the quote comes after the call.
- The pricing model is a subscription per named user, which every directory we checked agrees on
- The scope is ERP, MES, quality, supply chain planning and connected worker apps on one cloud platform, with production monitoring that reads machine data directly
- Rockwell does not list editions or seat rates in public, so the edition you are quoted depends on the modules discussed on the call
- Multi plant customers get volume pricing, according to ERP Research, but the size of that discount is not published
That is normal for a premium cloud ERP sold to automotive, food and beverage and metalforming plants. It also means the first number you see depends on how many users, plants and modules are in the room.
The Plex price per user estimates you will find online
With nothing official, every figure comes from a directory or an advisory firm. They do not measure the same thing, so read each as a clue, not a rate card.
| Source | What it says about Plex pricing | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| ERP Research | 120 to 250 USD per user a month, all modules included, support in the subscription | A seat price for the core subscription |
| ERP Research | Implementation 50,000 USD for a single plant to 600,000 USD or more for multi plant enterprises, 4 to 9 months | The project |
| ITQlick | Starts at 150 USD per user a month | A starting seat price |
| GetApp and CostBench | Starting price 3,000 USD a month, CostBench noting the figure comes from directory listings | A minimum subscription, not per user |
| VendorBenchmark | Base license 300 to 650 USD per user a month, 700 to 900 USD with three or four modules | Seats for 100 or more users, modules priced separately |
| VendorBenchmark | Implementation 1.5 to 2 times the first year subscription, 6 to 18 months | The project at enterprise scale |
Why they disagree: GetApp's figure is a monthly floor for the whole subscription, which for 12 users works out to 250 USD a user. ERP Research treats Plex as one subscription with modules inside it, while VendorBenchmark adds 40 to 150 USD per user a month for each module such as quality, supply chain or analytics. VendorBenchmark's sample is plants with 100 or more users, so its figures sit at the top. A 12 user plant should expect to be quoted closer to the ERP Research and ITQlick numbers, with a minimum annual fee.
What actually moves a Plex quote
- Named users. Every planner, buyer, supervisor and quality tech who logs in is a seat, and VendorBenchmark warns that minimum user counts and minimum annual fees can stay in place after headcount drops
- Modules. Quality, supply chain planning, maintenance and advanced analytics each change the number, whether they are bundled or listed separately
- Plants. Each site adds scope, and multi plant rollouts are phased over months
- Machine and IoT integration. Production monitoring that reads PLC data is one of Plex's real strengths and one of the larger services lines
- Data migration. VendorBenchmark puts migration from a legacy ERP at 2 to 4 months of work for larger plants
- The audit behind the purchase. Plants often start pricing Plex because a customer audit asks for traceability or a food safety plan. If the gap is the paperwork and not the shop floor, compliance management software that maps obligations to controls is a far smaller purchase than a cloud ERP
- Renewal terms. VendorBenchmark reports typical three year terms with 3 to 5 percent yearly escalation, and advises asking for a cap in writing
What Plex costs one plant over three years, worked through
Take a 70 person automotive parts plant where 12 people log in: the plant manager, two planners, two buyers, four supervisors, two quality techs and a controller. The sketch uses the published estimates and ERP Research's single plant implementation figure. It is arithmetic on listings, not a Rockwell quote.
| Scenario | Basis | Per year | Three year total with 50,000 USD implementation |
|---|---|---|---|
| ERP Research low | 120 USD per user a month | 17,280 USD | 101,840 USD |
| ITQlick start | 150 USD per user a month | 21,600 USD | 114,800 USD |
| ERP Research high | 250 USD per user a month | 36,000 USD | 158,000 USD |
| VendorBenchmark base license | 300 USD per user a month | 43,200 USD | 179,600 USD |
That leaves out the hours your own people spend cleaning routings, testing and training during a 4 to 9 month rollout, which is the cost owners underestimate most.
ProductionPlanning.ai over the same three years is 2,682 USD on Line or 7,722 USD on Plant, paid yearly, with all 70 people included and no implementation fee. It is not a like for like comparison, and the next section says why.
Plex pricing model next to a flat price per plant
| What you pay for | Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform | ProductionPlanning.ai |
|---|---|---|
| Price visibility | Quote after a demo | Published on the pricing page |
| Subscription basis | Per named user, modules bundled or added | Per plant, unlimited users |
| Entry price | Estimates from 120 USD per user a month | 149 USD per plant a month |
| Implementation | From about 50,000 USD, 4 to 9 months per ERP Research | None, import a spreadsheet and run |
| MES, machine data and traceability | Yes, a core strength | No |
| Accounting, purchasing and quality | Yes, built in | No, keep your books where they are |
| Finite capacity schedule with late order warnings | Through the scheduling and MES screens | Yes, the whole product |
| Best for | Automotive, food and metalforming plants replacing ERP, MES and quality at once | 5 to 60 person plants that ship late and keep their current systems |
Plex money buys an ERP, an MES and a quality system that read the machines directly. A tier two automotive supplier with traceability demands and several plants may genuinely need that, and the price reflects it. A 40 person plant that runs QuickBooks and a spreadsheet and keeps missing ship dates is pricing a platform to answer one question. Our Plex ERP alternative page sets the two products side by side, feature by feature.
What to ask on the Plex pricing call
- Is the price per named user, and is there a minimum user count or a minimum annual fee?
- Which modules are in the quote, and what does quality, supply chain planning or analytics add per user?
- Is implementation fixed price or time and materials, and is it Rockwell or a partner doing it?
- What does machine integration cost per line or per plant?
- What is the yearly escalation, is it capped, and what happened to renewals since the Rockwell acquisition?
- Can users be reduced at renewal if headcount drops?
- How long until planners publish a schedule the floor actually follows, not just a go live date?
Put the answers in one sheet next to the same questions asked of every other vendor. Our best production scheduling software roundup, the Epicor Kinetic alternative page and the DelmiaWorks pricing article give you the same facts for the other systems on a typical shortlist.
Plex ERP pricing questions buyers ask
How much does Plex ERP cost?
Plex does not publish a price. Third party estimates run from 120 to 250 USD per user a month at ERP Research and from 150 USD at ITQlick, with GetApp showing a 3,000 USD monthly start. Implementation starts around 50,000 USD for one plant. A 12 user plant should budget roughly 102,000 to 180,000 USD over three years, before internal time.
Is Plex priced per user?
Yes. Every directory we checked describes Plex as a subscription per named user, with modules either included or added per user. Minimum user counts and minimum annual fees can apply. That is why the bill rises with every planner, supervisor or quality tech who needs to log in.
How much does a Plex implementation cost?
ERP Research estimates about 50,000 USD for a single plant and 600,000 USD or more for multi plant enterprises, over 4 to 9 months. VendorBenchmark, which samples larger plants, puts implementation at 1.5 to 2 times the first year subscription and 6 to 18 months. Machine integration and data migration drive most of it.
Who owns Plex Systems now?
Rockwell Automation. It bought Plex Systems in 2021, and the product is now sold as the Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform alongside Rockwell's other software. Older listings and many quotes still say Plex Manufacturing Cloud or Plex ERP.
Is Plex worth it for a small manufacturer?
For a plant under 30 people it is usually a heavy purchase: a per user subscription, an implementation from about 50,000 USD and a rollout of several months. It earns its price where MES, machine data and traceability are required. If late orders are the main problem, a scheduler next to your current books costs far less.
What is a cheaper alternative to Plex?
For a whole cloud ERP, buyers compare Plex with Epicor Kinetic, Infor CloudSuite Industrial, Acumatica and DelmiaWorks. For a small plant that needs finite capacity and a late order list without an ERP project, ProductionPlanning.ai costs 149 USD per plant a month on Line or 429 USD on Plant, with unlimited users.
Price the schedule before you price the platform
Run the demo on a sample week of orders and see the late list and the bottleneck in a few minutes. If it answers the question you were about to spend a Plex discovery call on, the Line plan is 149 USD a month for the whole plant.
